Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a technique of inserting and manipulating fine filiform needles into specific points on the body to relieve pain or for therapeutic purposes. According to Traditional Chinese Medical theory, acupuncture points are situated on meridians along which Qi(the vital energy) flows.

The WHO, the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) of National Institute of Health (NIH), The America Medical Association (AMA) and various government reports have studied and commented on the efficacy of acupuncture. There is general agreement that acupuncture is safe when administered by well-trained practitioners using sterile needles.

Acupuncture`s origins are uncertain. The earliest Chinese medical text that first describes acupuncture is the Yellow Emperor`s Classic of Internal Medicine (history of acupuncture) Huangdi Neijing, which was complied around 305-204 B.C.
In accordance with the ancient cycles of nature, vitality (Qi or Chi) circulates along the meridians and channels throughout the body, connecting all our parts and functions. In a healthy person the Qi flows smoothly through the meridians, but when we lose connection with nature the flow becomes blocked and problems occur.
The aim of Traditional Medicine is to restore the harmonious free-flow of Qi by removing blockage and re-balancing deficiency and excess throughout the body. The skilled practitioner uses needles, heat and pressure on specific points along the meridians. Recovery in a part or function of the body is achieved and wellbeing – physical, emotional and spiritual – is restored. Traditional Medicine is tonifying, balancing, relaxing and restorative. Most things that go wrong with the body can be prevented, alleviated or improved with Traditional Medicine.

The first treatment starts with detail consultation, recording past medical history. You will be asked about your current symptoms, your diet, digestion system, sleeping pattern, emotional state, etc.
An integral part of a Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment includes taking the pulse on both wrists, and also having a look tongue. Those procedures indicate to us your general state of health and allow us to reach a diagnosis and treatment plan.

Acupuncture needles are much finer than needles for injections and blood tests. Acupuncture needles are inserted a few millimeters below the skin at chosen point along the channels of energy. Sometimes it may go a bit deeper when it aiming for muscle to release stagnation. Single use disposable stainless steel needles are used. The sensation may be either dull or described as tingling or aches, with the intention of stimulating the body`s own healing response and help restore and maintain its natural balance.

Frequency of treatments will depend on the individual`s condition. Generally though, a course of acupuncture may involve weekly visits initially, followed by fortnightly intervals. As you improve, less visits will be required. Alongside acupuncture, the use of Moxabustion(burn the herb Artemisia Vulgaris to give heat sensation) and the application of cups may be included in a treatment.

You will be required to lie or sit on a table for acupuncture treatment or ear acupuncture.
You will be required to change clothes which we provide for treatment.

Patient Appointment

Please try to arrive 5 to 10 minutes earlier for your appointment. We are very careful in keeping our schedule on time, so that it is unusual for you to be seen more than a few minutes past your scheduled time. Arriving early allows you to rest a few minutes and allow your pulses to calm for the visit. When a patient rushes to make an appointment, it disturbs the Qi and pulse. We want to make sure that you benefit fully from a complete treatment session, and this is another reason to come a little early.

In order to be fair to other patients, we do not extend the treatment into another patient's appointment if you arrive late.

Please call us to make an appointment on 03-5445-6600
